It's NOT Made in China

The outcomes of this project was to design bottle labels for the local South African company It’s Not Made In China. We had to display our own unique style in these illustrations and we also had to do three different labels. I wanted my concept for this project to contain a bit of irony and contradictory.
Label 1 Bottel Render
After thinking about the name of the company and what they stand for, I wanted to change this up a bit and have my illustrations look like they actually ARE made in China. I chose to demonstrate a very well-known technique, which I love to practise in my spare time. I chose to illustrate my paintings in the ancient blue china painting technique which was used to paint on chinese pottery and plates.
Label 2 Bottle Render
I absolutely love this technique and feel like it represents China in a very significant way. Even though my illustrations represented a very traditional Chinese technique I still wanted to keep it local in some way, because it is a local company that provides a platform for local artists. That is when I decided to include an easily recognisable South African element in every illustration.
Label 3 Bottle Render
I chose incorporate the King Protea, a Giraffe as well as a Hoepoe bird, because I feel like there’s nothing more South African than these three things.
I painted with blue watercolour, as the traditional blue china is painted, and incorporated the South African elements as if they should belong there.
